Potential New Initiatives  to be considered through community consultation

Walk the Walk

This will be a scheme to encourage residents and visitors to make more leisure use of the footpaths and green spaces in and around The Deepings - particularly to attempt the challenge of walking the full 9 mile circuit around the neighbourhood.

Go the Extra Mile

This will be a scheme to encourage residents to assess whether a local journey can be managed by walking, cycling or with mobility assistance rather than car use i.e. trips to schools, the shops or health centre.

Benchmarking

Eventually there will be many new benches and other forms of public seating around and across the Deepings Green Walk.  We would like each location will include some form of public art to identify it and to enable a map to be drawn up.  Significant locations could be named and sponsored by local business and other contributors.  Public seating could be donated in a variety of ways.

Wayfinding

Each significant location will also include an information board designed in conjunction with our Deepings Heritage group to explain its historic or geographic importance.  Signposts will be used to direct to other nearby sites.

Green Prescriptions and Well-being Walks

In time, we hope to develop a 'green prescription' scheme to work in conjunction with medical prescriptions - particularly to help combat anxiety and stress.  It could include regular walking in peaceful and natural local environments, individually or with the companionship of others.

Paws Pals

We recognise that dog owners already make good use of the green spaces and pathways throughout the Deepings. The Paws Pals scheme will invite dog owners to share their walking schedule with others who would like the opportunity to walk with a dog but are unable to have their own pet.
Directory of Walking Groups

The Deepings already supports a number of walking groups and we would like to collate a list of contacts on this site to enable residents and visitors to find out more about activity options within the neighbourhood. If you are an organiser, please could you get in touch to pass on your contact details.
